Heather is one of the lucky ones to be born and raised in Golden! She is a 1994 graduate of Golden High School. She continued her education earning her BA in Communications from Arizona State University. After college, she married her high school sweetheart, Bryan, and followed him on many adventures while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. In 2008, they returned to their hometown to raise their three kids and care for their aging parents.

It is apparent in all of Heather’s community involvement that she is passionate about protecting the unique character of her hometown and firmly believes that:

“The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality; the last responsibility is to say Thank You; in between, the leader is a servant of their community.”

Her executive experience includes serving as the Executive Director of the Golden Civic Foundation – an organization that uses civic leadership, community investment and philanthropy to improve quality of life in the City of Golden. Recognized for her leadership and expertise in navigating change and working across sectors with local business leaders, elected officials, and community and philanthropic partners, Heather has defined the Foundation’s role in supporting local small businesses and nonprofit organizations that make Golden a stronger, more vibrant community for all. During her time at the Foundation, Heather is proud of her work helping multiple community organizations thrive, serving in a key leadership role for our residents, nonprofits and businesses during the pandemic, as well as working on the team to protect the future development of the Meyer Hardware building.

Heather is not a career politician but her unique life experiences as a Golden native, student, corporate professional, Navy spouse, working mom, business owner, non-profit executive and community volunteer, has equipped her with the leadership skills needed to be the next Mayor of Golden.

A Heart for Service

Having been raised by civic-minded parents in Golden during the 1970s and 1980s, working hard, rolling up her sleeves when there was a need, and taking care of her Golden community were core to her upbringing. The late Marv Kay, who was one of her dearest friends and life mentors, kept her centered with his quote that she lives by — “Volunteerism is the price you pay for the space that you occupy.”

In addition to serving as the Executive Director of the Golden Civic Foundation since 2016, Heather has also been involved in the development, growth, and success of the following Golden organizations:

However, her true passion is her husband, Bryan, of over 20+ years and their three kids that attend Golden schools (Mitchell Elementary, Bell Middle School and Golden High School).

Being present in her family’s lives and building her kids’ character, values of honesty and hard work – along with having some fun adventures along the way – is her goal to launch them to be impactful leaders in this changing world.
